New web portal makes life easier for military families
Posted Jul 22, 2010 By Kristen CoughlarEMC lifestyle - Whether posted to CFB Kingston, Petawawa, Halifax or Edmonton, military families will be able to easily access their local Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC).
Since March, MFRC's across Canada, the U.S. and Europe have been implementing a common website template.
In June the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC) became one of 44 Canadian Family Resource Centres to go live on the new web portal for military families, www.familyforce.ca.
KMFRC webmaster and marketing and public relations officer Justin Ferguson said that the common FamilyForce model will make life easier for military families.
"It's easy for military families that are moving around," he said, noting that no matter where a family is posted it will be able to use the CF Community EASYlocator map at FamilyForce.ca to put them in touch with its local MFRC.
Ferguson also noted that the standard website design and layout across all MFRC's will make it easier for military families to access the information they are in search of.
"No matter what MFRC you're at you'll be able to find what you're looking for," he said.
Justin noted that all of the same information that was on the previous KMFRC website has carried over with the new FamilyForce template, with a couple of new additions including an events calendar which highlights the events each day in any given month.
Ferguson also noted that the FamilyForce model allows military families to create their own FamilyForce account where they can receive RSS feeds, access to local weather reports and different MFRC event calendars.
He said that so far the new website template has been well received by Kingston military families.
"I think they like it. I don't know if it's because our old site was as clean cut as it was. I think with the new one they like the calendar. It makes it easier to plan things," he said.
Ferguson noted that military families looking to provide feedback, whether on the new website or the KMFRC's programs and services, will find a KMFRC Needs Assessment Survey on its website.
"It (the survey) was suppose to be a short term thing, but we've left it up because we've gotten so much feedback," he said, noting that any and all feedback assists the KMFRC as it looks to the future.
The KMFRC's new website can be accessed at familyforce.ca. Military Families will also be re-directed to the site via the organization's old website domain, kmfrc.com.
