EMC News The Central Frontenac Railway Heritage Society wanted it made clear they weren't coming to Council in Sharbot Lake last week looking for money, they only wanted a tentative endorsement from the Township to proceed with their latest project a double-sided, roofed billboard about 36 feet long and 12 feet high.

"It's still in the planning stage," said CFRHS representative Sally Engle. "We're looking for your support so we can go to the fundraising stage.

"We wanted some kind of project that would tell people more about the K & P (Railway)."

Central Frontenac sign artist Rodger MacMunn created a model of the billboard that would be placed somewhere in Frontenac Railway Heritage Park across from the municipal offices in Sharbot Lake.

On one side, a mural is planned featuring an old K & P locomotive with description of its history in the Sharbot Lake area.

On the other, the plan is a commemoration of an excursion train that travelled to Kingston to greet King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth (better known as the Queen Mum in recent times) during their first official visit to Canada in 1939, which was the first ever Canadian visit by a ruling British monarch.

The second side is crucial to funding opportunities because of money available from sources related to the celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.

She said total cost for the project would be about $30,000 and "funding for the project and the maintenance of it would solely be the responsibility of the CFRHS.

"We're ready if the money is there."

Coun. Tom Dewey summed up Council's approval by saying "I can support this."
