Drew Cumpson fundraiser a success in Guelph, more local benefits currently in the works
Posted Feb 2, 2012 By EMC NewsEMC News - In our Jan. 19 paper, the EMC told you about a fundraiser being held at the University of Guelph to benefit former Sydenham student Drew Cumpson, who was rendered quadriplegic in a tragic accident while on a humanitarian mission in Peru last spring. We are happy to report that the fundraiser went extremely well. About 250 guests attended, and the event has so far raised over $28,805 - well surpassing its goal of $10,000. The money will be put toward the cost of the wheelchair Drew needs, as well as additional machines that will assist him during his recovery process.
"The highlight of the evening was a Skype session with Drew," said Michelle Chan, Director of Charitable Events, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Guelph University. "His smile sparked smiles on all faces, as usual, and the amount of love felt in the room was incredible."
Anyone still wanting to donate to this great cause may send a cheque made out to "HTMSA" or "Hospitality and Tourism Management Student Association" with "Drew" in the memo line to:

In addition, the student council at Sydenham High School is planning a fundraiser for Drew this month. "Desserts for Drew" is open to the public, and will be held between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. at the school on Feb. 10. Plates full of dessert will be available for $5 each, and donations will be accepted.
Another fundraiser for Drew is being planned for May 5 at the North Frontenac Arena.
